Tales of a Bronze Bastard VII

Currently -- Bronze IV with 50

Well, 5.5 is live now.  I have a new mouse and am off from work today.  I'm going to try a casual game to see if I like this mouse, then...ranked or bust.  Not loving the mouse, switching back.

Ranked has sucked. I've played well lately, especially as solo, but just can't win.  So that is a sign of improvement.  I'm not getting BM-ed in game anymore.  So there's that.  Of course...when the rest of my team is a bunch of 10 year old who just installed the game, it doesn't really matter if I win lane.  Hopefully the new matchmaking algorithm will help.  I wonder how long the queue will be this morning?  6:45, not bad

Crap.  There's a bug where you can't call role in chat.  I wanted to go Cerb solo.  But if I pick Cerb at 3rd pick, they may think I'm Supp. Our Vulcan is diamond. 2nd pick takes Nemesis. I'm going to make a flex pick and go where it takes me.  Sylvanus.  Let's see what happens.  I can go supp or solo with this guy and feel OK about it.  The other team has an Osiris and what I presume will be a Cu Chu or Zhong support.  Wow, this should be fun.  Our team rounds out with Iza and Bellona; I'm going supp on this one.

Well, what a game.  Zhong crushed me early, I truly underestimated him.  I die 5 times in the first 10 minutes.  I do start to turn it around after I finish sov, though.  We team fight way better than the enemy, but they are tactically more sound than we are.  They group well and split well.  But when we get into 5 on 5...its no question we crush them.  We take numerous objectives, Gold Fury and Fire Giant all day.  We actually get the lead in gold from our early deficit.

And wouldn't you know it...in a ranked game that was going well...we get DC'd at the 40-minute mark by whatever bug HiRez dropped on us today.  Thanks a lot, this is just another game in the life of a Bronze Bastard.

Tales of a bronze bastard VI

Tales of a bronze bastard VI -- current TP = 63 Bronze IV

Well I'm 5th ELO after an 11-minute wait.  Solo falls to me.  I had a casual game this morning where I destroyed an Erlang Solo and went 8-4.  I have chaac on the enemy team. Can the bronze bastard make Cerb ranked solo work?  We'll see, I guess.

Well, I lost a little early.  That happens.  I had trouble in casual until I hit level 3. This Chaac handles me well, and we fight to a convincing stalemate by the 10-minute mark.  As is often the case in solo, I'm not so worried about my performance, as that of my allies.  I keep hearing trouble from the duo lane.  They lose a tower.  The jungle starts BM-ing the mid, who also loses a tower.  About 20 mintues in, I am still stalemating this Chaac; but getting the upper hand.

Both the T1 and T2 mid and duo towers fall.  Really?  I mean, really?  Doesn't the law of averages state that I have to get not-shit players SOME of the time, at least??  I mean, eff me.

We end up winning a couple of good team fights at the end, but losing handily.  The artemis ADC that I let go ADC was bad. I should have been ADC.

Game II
I am 3rd pick, so the only bright lining here is that maybe the other team is so bad that we can win by accident.  Looks like I'm drawing Cu Chulainn as a lane opponent.  My Cerb solo gets a Sylvanus supp and a Neith mid for partners.  I like our team comp. The enemy team comp looks like it will kill early.  There's a Rat jungle, so I'll have to worry about that.

Once again, I'm playing well.  I play the early start against this Cu Chu even better than the prior starts.  The Rat is proving to be as troublesome as I'd feared, ganking me for my only death early.  The Rat goes 7-2 in the first 20 minutes. I encourage this team to stay in it, that range wont be a factor when we can teamfight and crush him.

The close early and midgame is turning heavily in favor of the other team during late.  They are just taking turns killing us, now.  Thoth and Xba are feasting at the table Rat sat for them earlier.  Its brutal.  Our jungler is pretty weak.  Ah well, you win and lose some.  The Bronze Bastard, however, loses most all of them.

Tales of a Bronze Bastard V

tales of a BB V - currently at 85 TP Bronze IV

Well, I won a game last night.  Awesome.  I'm going to dare one more attempt this evening.  5 minute queue.  Let's see what I can do from 5th ELO.  Solo falls to me.  I bounce between Nike and Chaac.  I'm likely going against a mage solo, probably Agni.  I need pressure escapability.  I decide this is a sign.  My Nike has played well despite losing.  Maybe she'll work better in this team context.

Well, yet again...I play well.  But I get beat early by Zeus.  I manage to fight back and eventually push him out of lane, but my mid and my duo lane are getting killed under tower.  I mean...really....the only thing about solo is if you have a bad solo, you will lose.  But if you have a good solo...you will be at a stalemate.  You have to be one of the best solos around, to beat your opponent AND carry your sorry ass team.

Our Bastet plays well.  She ends positive, and leads all categories except mitigated.  She rotates, she helps...but duo and mid just lose their selves like its a 90 mph wind and they weigh only 75 pounds combined.  I mean,  I go over and try to help...and the Thoth literally backpedals.  The Jing Wei didn't advance.  Didn't build crit. I don't think they have the best builds ever, but what really concerns me is how the Geb has 14 deaths.  I mean...how does a god with an escape, 2 CC's, and a shield die that many times?

I can't count how many times I come to mid and 1v3 and even 1v4 with no help from any damage dealer but Bastet.  I mean, if literally only a 3rd person on this team could help, we'd mop these guys up. But they don't.  And we don't.

Game II - currently at 77 TP Bronze IV

I'm 4th ELO.  I get support.  I go with Ganehsa.  My carry is Hachi.  I like this combo.  This game has short sentences.  That will be this game's thing. also, short paragraphs.

Our Serqet is horrible.  She doesn't ever gank.  The gankiest assasin...and she wants to farm.  And then starts the BMing.  I rarely mute people...but this person....this guy was muted.  Oh man.  So horrible.

The team actually destroyed the other team on numerous occasions.  But yes...the Serqet kept farming.  We come back to snatch victory away...and this Serqet DOESN'T go charge the middle lane with all 4 of the others...she screws around up to the right side of the map and gets herself killed.  I'm not the only one to observe the poor jungle...other team members point it out, as well.

I know I said we were going short sentences this game...but EFF this game...eff it.  eff Serqet

Game III - currently at 7 TP Bronze IV

OK, this is for real the last game of the night.  I am 5th ELO.  hell.  They should invent 10th Elo, and I'll be that guy.  I'll be the guy so bad that he is definitely the worst player in the lobby.  I'm a bronze bastard.  fml.

I pick Nike because well..I'm a glutton for being butthurt, apparently.  But I see Cu Chu as the enemy solo.  I have played against Cu Chu and done well, so I decide to give it a try.  Sigh.

This Cu Chu is immortal.  Like, he literally just slew our entire team in left lane.  We suck, I lose...life of a bronze bastard

Tales of a Bronze Bastard IV

Takes of a Bronze Bastard

Sitting at 70 TP in Bronze IV.  Let's see how this goes.  Sigh.  My forays into casual today were not much more successful than my ranked yesterday.  So I figured, why not?  A couple games to end the sunday.

I decide to do something I haven't done in weeks, go for a ranked joust.  I'm silver IV here, so we'll have to see how it goes.  We draft Anubis, Cu Chulainn (me), and Chiron against Ares, Hades and Hou Yi.  AOE RIP.

I warned everyone to buy beads.  The other two guys did and were fine.  I didn't, and died 6 times before level 12. fml, RIP.  We actually played well enough to beat the other team, we were just behind.  The chiron was not good, but those early deaths on my part really complicated things and I couldn't carry him.

Let's see if I can get my way back into Bronze III.  Sigh.  2-3 solid wins should do it.  Come on, bro.  Do this!

Queue pops and I'm 3rd elo.  #1 calls ADC. #2 takes Cu Chu.  He's got the diamond skin, so maybe there's hope.  Adc is Freya and mid is Anhur.  The enemy team will be confused, lol.  I go Ganesha.  Looks like I'm going against Apollo and Artio.  Unless they're also doing a non-traditional start.  Idk about these non-trad starts in ranked.

Well, they Freya ADC and I got pushed early on.  There was no help from the jungle, Thanatos was all about farming and staying on the left side of the map.  Quite frustrating.  I even made multiple calls to have him come over.  Oh well.  We eventually won the lane, but it was a hard fought battle and required a few of my deaths.

I go Traveler shoes because i'm just used to the movement speed and want it.  Since we were getting pushed, I decided to skip Thebes and go straight with Sovereignty.   It works. I throw on Pestilence after that, for Artio.  We ultimately win lane and I start pushing over to mid right along with the enemy Artio.  Anhur and I are able to take Mid tower.  Solo rocked his side.  We pushed through the mid T2 tower, then each of the sides.  A true game of attrition, but we get ahead so I play aggressive with Void stone and ethereal staff.  the tower falls.  Finally, a win for the Bronze Bastard.

Tales of a Bronze Bastard III

Game I -- current tribute points - 3

Its been a rough series of games.  I've just lost one after the other.  To cap it off, my computer rebooted and I hadn't saved my last entry.  Suffice it to say, I had two good games out of three and still couldn't win.  I'm destined for mediocrity.  I keep thinking i'm rounding the corner, but the truth of the matter seems to be that I still need good players around me to win.  I am not good enough to carry.  I have to get better.  On the flip side, I've played a lot of casuals this week and have been winning quite a bit.  Ganesha is coming back, for sure.  G feel like G can take Sylvanus in the right spot, and could also make an interesting run with Tyr.  I also think of going back to my Chaac solo.  I'm concerned about taking Nike, as I've been trending down with her even when I've won lane and played well.  At least i figured out that by moving my computer closer to the modem, my ping is much more consistent and i'm not dropping from games.  fml.

4 minute queue on a Saturday afternoon.  And i'm 4th ELO.  I'm going solo.  Looks like the enemy ELO 3 is going to take Amaterasu/Tyr solo.  Not sure if he was gaming me or sincere in his indecesion.  Enemy team comp has flex appeal.  Ama could go supp with Athena in the jungle and a rat solo.  That'd be wild.  Ather possible option is Ama.  Two different things to prep for.

Looks like Ama, but she disappears.  Am i being faked/baited?  Nope, but I'm getting trolled by my own team, all game.

No calls.  4-20 and 8K gold behind at 16 mins.  I play pretty well and take my tower down first.  I take down mid's tower.  Our team as a whole is really just beefing.  The jungler is 1-8.  Duo doesn't have a kill between them.  There's never really much true hope beyond the 12 minute mark.  I can't be everywhere at once.  vvgg.

Game II -- current TP - 0
,
Well, I'm at the bottom of the barrel.  I suck horribly and can't win anything. I'm not playing Nike any more.  Something's off, despite my early run with her.  It's not that I'm not playing her well, its just that she's not strong enough to carry the game with a weak team around me. I gotta swap it up, even if I go solo.  Maybe Bellona or Cu Chu can play a bigger factor?

Oh god, the shitty adc from our last game is back.  Eff me.  I'm 4th elo.  I'll decide what to be when it gets to me.  I'm defeated.  I can't plan ahead.  I just have to grab and go.  Izanami.  The bad adc was 5th elo, so he took Bellona supp because a Slyvanus went solo.  I like the team comp and thought in picking.  Lets' hope it translates. It goes well at first.  Close game.  I keep getting called to middle and helping, and I keep dying for my trouble.  Luckilly, the Xba on the other side is also getting killed.  my lag jumps up to 300.  This is the second day in a row this has happened.  I hate comcast.  I lose again.

Bronze Bastard II

I'm currently sitting with 16 TP in Bronze III.  playing a few recent games resulted in some significant lost ground.  The last game I got solo, but the other team banned Nike.  wtf.  My favorite solo laner who never gets banned, banned.  She has the highest winrate at low levels, I guess other people are finally clued into this and banning her.  All that headway I made getting her to Platinum leaderboard level was wasted.  I haven't found another god solo that I can just go to every time.  I try to counterpick the opponent's solo, but they so rarely take a solo early unless its Cu Chulain, and Nike was my best counter to Cu Chu.

Game I
it took 7 minutes to pop a queue on this sunday afternoon.  I'm last ELO.  I may have a chance to not be horrible and get carried.  Ok so they have Da Ji, Discordia, Freya, and Chaac.  Who do i get to support this crew?  Thank god, someone dropped from the game and we are reset.  Picking 4th ELO, i'm taking my gold leaderboard Nike solo. i'm up against wht I can only assume is arachne or ymir.  will be interesting.

Wow, ganesha shows up in solo. the elephant proved to be a more challenging lane opponent that I'd anticipated. He was interrupting my abilities a lot with his 2.  I had to play patient, and not make mistakes.  I got a couple of solid ganks from our Ao Kuang jungle early, and that made a real difference in me getting the upperhand of an essential stalemate.  I got reinforced boots to take the edge off some of his CC threat.

I observed that this Ganesha was pretty aggressive and happy to blow his kit on every engage. This allowed me to delay using my own skills. I'd just watch for his 2 to fire, then I knew I was free to blow through any of my combos I wanted.  At level 10 I pushed his tower almost fully down. Ihat was pretty much the end of this solo lane encounter.  Ganesha started rotating.  I continued to push left tower until went down, then I started rotating.  Given my farm and early gear, I had the levels to really harrass the enemy mid, who had done well himself.   I was able to take his tower, transferring my advantage to the mid lane.

good teamwork, good attention by everyone, good calls, good warding = win.

Game II - 31 TP
I'm 4th elo.  The whole crew but me calls pref, and solo is open.  No one overlapped.  I hope this is a good omen.  I'm getting 4th pick solo, and of course i'm going my girl nike.  The opposite team has Cerberus 2nd pick, so i see him being a solo laner and not a guardian.  But healing isn't necessarily my thing with Nike, so I have no problem sticking with my girl.  Cerberus won't hurt me. The 4th pick on the other team takes Odin.  Its not clear if he'll be a jungle or solo.  At any rate, Nike is my god so I'm better going with who I know than anyone else.  And shit, someone left the group.  Again.  Well, last time this happened we got a win.  Maybe we will this time, too.

OK, I'm last ELO again.  I will prob be going supp.  The solo goes with Artio.  I'm going to play a warrior supp.  Amaterasu comes to mind, of course.  I play a lot of Chaac.  The enemy team has an apparent Sylvanus in duo.  They look to have a Solobek.  and a  Hachiman.  Gonna be a duo lane of heavy sustain.  That's good for Ama.  The other team has a 6-star Thanatos.  aye aye aye

My internet suddenly goes to shit.  I die 4 times to horrible lag spikes.  I get way behind.  We surrender.  It sucks, we could have killed this team.

Bronze Bastard 1

tales of a bronze bastard
------------------------------
i play a casual game with an atypical comp.  i called solo, but then the support went Odin.  I decided to try Cabrakan solo because i need a Mayan god for a quest.  early on i made a couple of build mistakes.  i thought spear of the magus would proc off his abilities, but it does not apear to.  so i sold that and got pestilence since the enemy supp was Artio and we were shifting towards midgame.  this was a very competitive match that went back and forth.  we lost in the 45th minute.

Pick/Ban Phase
well, i called solo pref then stepped down to get a glass of wine and the top ELO picked Cu Chulain, just because he was available. he had me pick Sylvanus.  Then, one of the guys exited the lobby so we all got spit back to queue.

Game II
Pick/Ban Phase
i'm fourth pick, asking for solo.  quiet group.  my top ELo throws out an Ullr ban and an Artio.  The other team benches Thanatos and Serqet.  The 2nd ELO asks for the surprisingly available He Bo, mid.  Top takes it.  I like this.  Third ELO takes solo, and the Nike that I wanted.  Can't say I blame him.  I ask the last guy which he'd prefer, he'd like ADC.  Guess I'm jungling.

I haven't done much successful ranked jungling.  I'm thinking Mercury is my go to, though Da Ji tempts me.  Arachne is the enemy jungler.  I decide to stick with Merc.  With Nike solo and He Bo mid, I figure we are going to have some early pressure and that I can farm jungle, so I just stick with Mercury and hope I can get to the late game quickly enough.

i got destroyed.  i haven't played mercury in a probably at least 10 days.  it seems like so much longer. i miss my ult numerous times.  i can't get any damage in.  i fall behind in levels.  at 8 mintues in, i decide to focus on farm.  i fail at farm, and fall far behind.  the team surrenders at 16 minutes, and it probably stayed on longer than it should.

i go for a casual game and end up ADC.  I cake AMC because he's my fav hunter, and I still need a Mayan god quest. we have an Achilles jungle.  my supp is a Sylvanus.  he is on-point with the pulls, which i think is a big deal because they are hard to hit for me.  i end up cruhsing, going 16K damage, 4K more than the opposing team's best.  11-2-6.  enemies surrendered at about 26 minutes.
